We received our mission call on Dec. 14 and from that time until Christmas the days just flew by. We were busy getting some legal matters taken care of and other pressing issues that needed to be taken care of before we leave. We finished our shopping, attended pre-Christmas programs and celebrations and soon it was time for Christmas.

On Dec. 20th we were able to attend our Grandson, Drake's 2nd birthday party. Lindsay had done a wonderful job of making it a special evening. There were about 25 family members there and Drake had a grand time opening presents and having cake and ice cream.

We enjoyed attending a 50th wedding anniversary celebration for Nancy's sister Joan and her husband Kent. It was hosted by their children and a great surprise to both Joan and Kent. Delicious food was served, some of us played the "newly-wed game" and they had a slide presentation featuring Joan and Kent and their 50 years together. They are both great examples to all of us and we wish them many more happy years together.
We spent Friday evening and Christmas Eve day and evening with Chad and Jill and their family. We had a wonderful meal, Jill had some Christmas trivia for us and Chad read the Christmas story from the book of Luke. We then had some time to tell about Christmas when we (Grandpa and Grandma were young) and then it was time to head for home. On Christmas morning we drove to Robert and Lindsay's and enjoyed watching Drake open his presents and then the adults opened their gifts and we then enjoyed a delicious Christmas breakfast. We attended Church and enjoyed a spiritual Christmas program. We were able to Skype or talk on the phone with all of our children. We feel very blessed and acknowledge from whom all these blessings come.

The week following Christmas was spent cleaning, throwing away items from our basement and our fruit room. We were also able to spend time with good friends and family. We were excited to visit with our Mission President, President Jones. He has yet to make a decision as to where in the mission we will be serving, but he did say that there are currently 25 couples in the mission and he could use 20 more. He is excited for us to come and promised to keep in touch by email.
We spoke in Church on Sunday, January 1 at 9:00 a.m. Quite early for many who had celebrated the "New Year the night before". Calvin and I spoke on the topic of developing a relationship with the Savior and Robert and Lindsay sang. We enjoyed having friends and family at the house following block time to enjoy lots of food and visiting. We'll spend the next two weeks preparing ourselves spiritually and making ready our home for the family that will live in it while we are on our mission. I am posting a few pictures from Sunday, Jan. 1, 2012.
